As a Financial Controller, you will lead financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance within the company. You will work closely with senior management to ensure the financial health of the organisation, advising on financial strategy, risk management, and cost optimisation. This is a highly visible role that will require a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and business acumen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and ensure the timely completion of audits.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with internal controls and audit procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure timely filing of tax returns and other financial compliance obligations.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and financial planning activities.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasts tracking performance against budgets.
  • Provide financial analysis and insight to support strategic decision-making and business operations.
  • Work with department heads to manage departmental budgets and ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to ensure the financial stability of the organisation.
  • Implement risk management processes and monitor financial risks
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimise cash flow and capital expenditures.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and enforcement of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Continuously improve financial processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, including accountants and financial analysts.
  • Provide guidance and support to senior management on financial matters, offering advice and actionable insights.
  • Present financial reports and analysis to the board of directors and other key stakeholders.
  • Analyse business performance and advise on cost-saving initiatives, profitability, and investment opportunities.
  • Evaluate and support major business decisions

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an accounts assistant or similar role is desirable.
  • A basic understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with accounting software 
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with large amounts of financial data.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with other departments.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • A relevant qualification in accounting or finance (e.g., AAT) is a plus but not required.
